"My little 2 year old loves this book so much, she'll take it to bed with her! The book is small, a little narrower than a board book, and the pages are regular paper (she's ripped one page, bu that's fixed with tape) but the illustrations are so charming...classic Eric Carle. The ending doesn't really say much, except that the moon grew back (it IS about the cycle of the moon, after all), but I think she likes the thought of Papa going to get the moon for the daughter to play with. I do have to substitute "Daddy" for "Papa" since she calls her grandfather that, and to avoid confusion, but my husband reads it verbatim, and she understands that "Papa" for the story = "Daddy". Charming, charming story, I would recommend it for anyone with a toddler who likes the moon and stars right now. There are pages to open for the full illustration, and a fold-out full moon page in the middle of the story that she likes, but needs help to fold back the right way. Highly recommend!"

Papa Please Get the Moon for Me Book CD The World of Eric Carle Eric Carle Stanley Tucci Books Reviews
- Okay, my son REALLY likes this book, so one star is straight from him to you. The other three stars are from me. The pictures are lovely as Eric Carle's work always is. Clearly my son sees magic in them. The story is okay...there is not really a resolution at the end and I kind of made up one because that bothers me. On the other hand, it is touching that Monica's dad goes to such trouble to get her heart's desire.
My real beef with this is that the board book version is put together so poorly. The fold out pages are just like wrapping paper glued on the board pages. Literally--you can see the lumps of glue, and the pages aren't exactly straight. Really, publisher? You couldn't make them like card-stock, the way lift-the-flap books usually are? I almost sent it back, but my son liked it so well I decided to keep it. I recommend checking out other editions of this book before buying. - I'm giving it 4 stars because my 21 month old is obsssed with this book. Which is also a curse since the flaps that open are like origami hard to refokd and even an adult reader had to close it in just the right way (specifically the big moon page in the middle)
So yes, it has been ripped and we've only had it a few month. So please make a version with a better pop up because the story and the illustrations are beautiful. - The story is sweet, but is missing a resolution. One additional page with a finale would be awesome. As written, the story just ends in mid air, hanging, the like moon...
I regret not reading the reviews before purchasing. The "board book" has various pages open up, defeating the purpose of a board book.
The animated version of this book (found on youtube) is far superior and is a true delight. My 2 year old daughter can watch it over and over and over. As a father, I would certainly do anything for her, even getting the moon! - Usually you buy the board book for 1 reason. Because they are usually stronger and the pages do not tear. This book is a board book but 6 of the pages fold out and that is where the problem lies. The fold out pages are regular flimsy paper and all have been ripped in the last couple months. The middle moon page has to be folded perfectly back into the book or it will rip. I would recommend the paperback or hardcover as this board book is a big job just reading it to a toddler. A book should be relaxing time not wondering how to get the pages back in before turning the pages. You should be able to let your toddler hold the book but this one will not make it one reading if you let a toddler turn the pages. I love Eric Carles books but this one is too much work.
- I wanted to get this book for my twins for the longest time!
They love books and we've read together every day since they were babies, but after seeing what they did to pop-up books, I knew they weren't ready for the fold-out pages.
My twins are 3 years old now, so I finally ordered it! I warned them to be careful and they've been ok so far, and absolutely LOVE this book! They love the story and have so much fun opening up the page with the large full moon!
Great addition to our Eric Carle collection! - We bought this book for my husband for Father's Day. It was perfect because our son calls him "Papa" versus "Daddy" and there aren't too many Papa books. We are also big fans of Eric Carle. He wrote this story for his daughter, and the father in the book spends his time trying to capture the moon for her. It is a sweet, endearing story that we will always treasure.
- Our two year old son loves this book and talks about it constantly. The size of this book is annoying though - so I recommend buying the full sized book instead.
