"This is an excellent way to read Shakespeare. Bruce uses as much of Shakespeare's original language as he can, and then inserts into the text, in plain English, what, eg, Penguin or Folger put in the footnotes. He also does a great job of explaining Shakespeare's double and triple entendres, and the other clever uses of language. And, he clarifies some of the cultural aspects that were different in Shakespeare's time, such as noting that male townspeople had the duty to be night watchmen. This is all done, as the title states, in prose.
Some of the rhythm of Shakespeare is lost. But, I found that reading the original version after reading the Bruce version made the original much more enjoyable because I could focus on Shakespeare's virtuosity, rather than straining to understand the meaning.
I've read some of the BookCaps Shakespeare in Plain English. Those are also good. But, this is better."
