On a Par with Murder Morris and Sullivan John Logue 9780440224006 Books Reviews

  • Logue ends his series with the best golf/mystery novel I have ever read and one that is atypical of his style.
Here we have a murderer not uncovered and arrested till well after the tournament, a suicide that leads the police astray and Morris in a blue funk after the tournament. It is only in a last section which covers a time period after the golf that Sullivan is responsible for that uncovers the killer and ends Morris's depression. the whole novel is a thing of absolute beauty and is as close to being perfect as I have ever read! It is a shame that Logue no longer writes, although he did tell me he has one more Morris book written and I hope, hope, hope he will get it printed.
  • A hot young golfer (no, not Tiger) is setting the PGA on fire and is making his first appearance at the US Open in Shinecock Hills. But is this mysterious young golfer who he says he is? After a couple of exciting rounds, a car accident similar to Chappaquidick occurs and we see someone has been murdered. A whole cast of agents and golf equipment reps are suspects, and Morris and Sullivan are sorting them all out. Once the killer is known, however, there is the difficulty of getting the evidence to prove it. Or maybe, to prove the killer had killed before. This was my first Logue book - a good author with an entertaining combination of mystery and golf.
