Live Curly Live Free Unlocking the Secrets Behind the World of Beautiful Curly Hair Tiffany Anderson Taylor 9781518702136 Books Reviews

  • I follow the Curly Girl Method and cowash my hair and this is the best book I've read on the subject. Ms.Taylor covers just about every subject there is concerning taking care of your naturally curly hair. She also gets into the science of curly hair and products to keep out of our beautiful curls. At the end of the book you will also read about curly girl myths and home remedies to help our curls. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
  • This is a very helpful book about wearing natural curly hair. I have fine hair which makes S curls and some are more coily. Unlike some of the other curly hair advice, this explained hair differently. The advice was broken down into texture, porosity, density and elasticity. The washing/styling routine was very helpful. It offered various modifications depending on the above hair classes. The most important information for frizz free styling is to check the weather report for the dew point. This will let you know whether to add more conditioner or more gel. I am learning all this in the summer. I am interested to see how I'll change my routine during the dry winter. There's a common technique called plunking or plopping. From other websites I could never follow the directions right. This book explained a better way by using a traingular folded cloth/t-shirt. I finally got it right!

Many cosmetic ingredients were explained in this book. I kind of wish I had it in hard copy because there's a lot in that chapter.
  • This book gets to the point about what you do and don't need to know to successfully care for your curly hair. I've read the other, more well known Curly Guide, but it didn't help me with what to do so I figured I'd read this one. I read this book in an afternoon and, following her advice, had one of my best wash days. Prior to this, any successful wash day was by accident!

If you're getting lost in whether you're a 2c or a 3a (doesn't matter), wondering if you're over-proteinized (you're not), or are just confused by the advice you're finding on YouTube and Instagram, then read this book!
  • The author makes it clear that the reader should not expect to absorb all the information provided in this book in a single reading. I completely agree.
This book should be reread again and probably again. It should definitely be kept close as a valuable reference text. There is no fluff. Taylor's writing is clean and direct. Answers can be found quickly and understood readily.
This will be at the top of my goto's for living with my curly hair
  • This book is very helpful in that it gives different insights (using science) regarding the care and keeping of curly hair than other curly girl books I've read. It makes so much more sense to use hair products that have the ingredients for your hair type rather than curl pattern/type. The ingredient list is invaluable in determining products best for you. Great buy for only $3.99. Saving me money, too, as I have a bag of products (containing ingredients that are damaging to my hair or not compatible with my hair type and the high dew point where I live in South Louisiana) that are going back to Sally's this weekend.
  • I am not sure what I expected but much of this book was a bit too much of a beauty/salon school set of classes for ME. If you want the bio and the chemical knowledge that hair and products have then this would be a fantastic place to start. It’s easy to read but I found myself skipping over much of the scientific details. I also confess I wanted more pictures. I think I may have come across the wrong book for what I was looking for...
  • I'm a Deva Certified HS. I can recommend this book to all my curlys for an easy home care. It's easy, to the point, and truthful. Great instructional Manuel
  • Practical advice for curly girls. Concise and well written. Help to determine your hair type and products to use was very valuable.
